Barcelona is trying to find means to strengthen the squad, despite the club’s financial situation.

According to reports, the club had approached former striker Luis Suarez over a potential return to Camp Nou, but their attempt wasn’t successful.

According to Catalan outlet SPORT, Barcelona were keen on signing Suarez, after he made the decision to leave Atletico Madrid.

The veteran striker is said to have turned down the approach from his former club.

Suarez spent six successful years at Barcelona after arriving from Liverpool in the summer of 2014.

The 35-year-old formed a fearsome attack with Lionel Messi and Neymar, and the trio became the most deadly in world football at the time.

Suarez controversially left the club in 2020 after the appointment of Ronald Koeman as manager.

The Uruguayan international played a key role in firing Diego Simeone’s men to the La Liga title in his first season there.

Suarez seemed to have slowed down and had an underwhelming 2021/22 campaign where he managed just 13 goals in 45 matches across all competitions.

The 35-year-old is currently on vacation and has been seen partying with Lionel Messi and Cesc Fabregas, while he recovers from a knee injury.

Suarez is set to join Argentina club River Plate ahead of next season.

Meanwhile, Barcelona have been in the market for a new striker and have identified Robert Lewandowski as their top priority.

However, Barca’s pursuit of the 33-year-old hasn’t gone to plan, due to Bayern Munich’s reluctance to sell their top goalscorer.
