Ousmane Dembele is nearing the end of his contract with Barcelona and it’s yet to be seen what will become of his future.
The France international has been linked with a move to Chelsea, but nothing concrete has come out of that.
Dembele’s agent has also held talks with French club PSG, as he has so far refused to sign a new contract with the club.
Meanwhile, Spanish radio station Cadena SER, has claimed that Dembele’s preference is to remain at Barcelona and he said this to his manager Xavi in a meeting this week.
Barca boss Xavi Hernandez is very much keen on keeping Dembele, and the 25-year-old is reportedly pleased to play under Xavi, having performed well under the watch of the ex Barcelona midfielder.
However, Barcelona club’s hierarchy have reiterated to Dembele that they will not be raising their contract offer for him, which is actually less than the salary he is currently on.
This is the main reason Dembele wants an exit. He is keen on playing for the club but doesn’t want a pay cut to do so.
Meanwhile, another report claims that Barcelona have asked Ousmane Dembele to delay a decision on his future as the club look to raise funds to keep the winger.
Ousmane Dembele and Xavi seemed to have formed a good relationship, and Xavi isn’t too keen on losing him.
According to a report by Sky Sports, Barcelona are desperately trying to raise the funds required to present a new offer to Dembele, including a plan to generate more income by selling a percentage of two of the club’s assets – in merchandising and TV rights.
In a week’s time, Dembele’s contract will be officially over, and we are waiting to see where he’d end up.
Ousmane Dembele and Xavi Hernandez ended up having a formidable partnership, and the France international will definitely be a big loss to the club.
