Roma will face Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy on August 6, and the game will mark the return of former Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho to the Camp Nou.
Mourinho was a fierce competition for Barcelona and won the LaLiga title, a Copa del Rey and a Spanish Supercup in his three seasons at Madrid.
The self-acclaimed Special One was hated in the Barcelona camp for his controversial style of management.
The Portuguese manager is fresh from winning the Europa Conference League title with Roma.
His return to the Camp Nou will add spice to the Gamper Trophy, an annual friendly match held in August that acts as a curtain-raiser to Barca’s campaign.
Roma faced Barca at the Gamper in the 2015 edition, with Barca winning the tie 3-0.
Mourinho was an assistant coach to former Barcelona boss Louis van Gaal for three seasons before leaving Barca in 2000 to take on the role of Porto manager.
Current Barca coach Xavi Hernandez, was a Barcelona coach during Mourinho’s time at the club.
“I never had him as a first team coach but as an assistant,” Barca coach Xavi once recalled of Mourinho’s time at the club.
“He was aggressive and taught us football concepts.”
