According to reports, Barcelona are believed to be contemplating the future of Barcelona defender Gérard Pique.

Pique has grown into a veteran at the club and is one of the senior players in the team.

According to a report by AS, Barcelona still remain huge fans of Pique and appreciate his loyalty and years of service to the club, but his heavy contract demands now seem to be a worry for the club.

Pique is one of Barcelona’s top earners and still has two more years on his contract with the club. However, he had several injury worries last season that affected his productivity.

Beside his injury and salary troubles, Barcelona chiefs are also believed to be worried about Pique’s issues off the field.

The 35-year-old has found himself embroiled in a handful of controversies recently. From his relationship with Colombian pop star Shakira, to a scandal which saw him broker a deal to play the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia. It was recently revealed that he pushed to have David Aganzo removed from the Spanish players’ union as well.

Barca is looking to trim the club’s wage budget, and Gerard Pique may just be affected.
