Manchester United saw a bid of about €80million rejected by Barcelona for the transfer of Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

New Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is keen on reuniting with his former Ajax player at Manchester United, and De Jong has been earmarked as a priority signing.

Former Manchester United and Barcelona boss Louis van Gaal has claimed De Jong is worth more than Manchester United’s offer for him.

According to Van Gaal, who is currently the head coach for Holland, De Jong is worth €112million.

The Holland head coach made the assertion after his side’s 2-1 Nations League victory against Wales, which saw De Jong step off the bench as a substitute.

During his post-match interview, Van Gaal lauded De Jong for his efforts after coming on and claimed Barcelona should hold out for a huge fee this summer.

“Frenkie de Jong does bring an extra quality, of course,” Van Gaal said as per Daily Mail. “That is why he is also worth €112million.”
