Netherlands head coach Louis van Gaal has hailed Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, following his stunning performance against Belgium.
De Jong ran the show in the middle of the park in the UEFA Nations League game against Belgium, with Netherlands winning the tie 4-1.
Van Gaal told journalists after the game: “It is always a victory for the collective, but there are people who can excel in the collective which is of course great.
“There are always stars in certain matches, but in this one, Frenkie de Jong and Steven Bergwijn – that was incredible how those two played.”
Meanwhile, De Jong may no longer be a Barcelona player next season, with Manchester United keen on signing the 25-year-old.
