Netherlands skipper Virgil van Dijk was full of praise for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, following his stunning performance against Belgium.

De Jong ran the show in the middle of the park in the UEFA Nations League game against Belgium, with Netherlands winning the tie 4-1.

Netherlands and Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has admitted that the Barcelona midfielder is consistently excellent.

Van Dijk said: “Bergwijn was incredible, [Steven] Berghuis too. Memphis was excellent. Frenkie, well, he always plays good in my eyes.”

Barcelona fans would be hopeful De Jong remains at the club, after a brilliant season, with Manchester United keen on the midfielder.
